Review
Cyberbetz
by Max Drayman, WINNERonline.com
29 Aug 1999

Note: Cyberbetz switched to Real Time Gaming software in July 2000, after this review was written.

The PitBoss here at WINNERonline said "go check out Cyberbetz for me will ya" so off I went. Their site was a little slow for me, but I got the 3.5Mb download without much problem and installed it.

The system is built on the plug-in idea where you get the basic system and then add in the bits you want. I like this set-up because I'm basically a dice and cards man and don't really need the slots et al. Downloading and installing the additional games went off without a hitch and that is nice because it's not an easy thing to do. "Worth the wait" I assure myself and go grab a coffee while my modem sucks in the next 6 Mb.

So now I'm ready to dive into the games, starting with Blackjack. With sound effects like the laser guns in "Star Wars" I quickly went looking for the OFF button. One toggle controls all the sound so it's all or nothing. I chose "nothing". And now we get to playing and what's with the card speed? Soooo slooow. Open up the options, tweak the speed up as high as it will go and guess what? It's still soooo sloooow. Let's try the dice tables.

Craps is like a gin and tonic for me: refreshment. And I'm happy to report that Cyberbetz has one of the nicer Craps games around. The table boss has a great voice, like a lady trucker enjoying a second career. It's not often when the voice and game sounds actually make me want to play, but that was definitely the case here. She's great and she made me crack a smile more than once. And the dice speed is nice too. No lag, no hesitations. The dice themselves could've been a little bigger: I like to be able to read them on the table instead of relying on the dice window in the corner, but it's not a big deal.

I tried the other games and the pattern I've established so far pretty much maintained itself. Some games were too slow and had annoying sounds, others clipped along and I really enjoyed them. Win a few, lose a few I guess. It's MicroGaming software we're talking about by the way -- doesn't always suit everyone's tastes.

And now to the particulars. For customer support Cyberbetz provides a toll-free number and a variety of e-mail addresses. Bonuses at Cyberbetz appear to be limited to around 10% on initial account deposits. If you want to gamble your mortgage, deposits of over $10,000 receive a 15% bonus.
