06 Jul 05 Underdog London Awarded Olympics In speaking with several online sportsbooks, the interest in wagering on who would win the 2012 Olympic bid ranged from quite mild for North American-focused books, to more revved up for the European books.
Paris was the clear frontrunner leading into today's announcement, but it was London (+480 at several shops yesterday, meaning a $100 bet would return $480 in profit) who pulled off the upset.
06 Jul 05 Online Casino Eyes Blues (Sort Of) The always publicity hungry Casino Fortune Group made another PR-focused offer to purchase a pro sports team.
Like the offers to buy the Cleveland Cavalier and Phoenix Suns before this one, the offer to purchase the St. Louis Blues likely won't happen either - but they obviously believe these offers are a good way to get their name out there (and look, we just wrote about it :)
06 Jul 05 Cheating at WSOP? Two black souvenir poker chips that are nearly indistinguishable when stacked with actual $100 chips being used in the World Series of Poker were discovered in play during an official event Tuesday, raising concerns among tournament organizers of a new form of cheating.
They were replaced and the players were given real chips, based on the fact the dealers weren't able to tell if they were slipped in after the chips were doled out, or if they somehow came from the official stack of chips.
From now on, all offical stacks will be carefully checked, and any new instances of the chips being found will result in the offending parties being disqualified from the tournament.

05 Jul 05 Royal Sports Saga The on-going difficulties with players getting paid (stalling payments is common practice by this sportsbook) and one player situation in particular, has entered the realm of the comical. The usual "watchdog" forums are slinging mud at each other; there are accusations of "doctored" tapes, extortion, etc.
Meanwhile Royal's practice of doing everything they can to make it as difficult as possible to get your money continues - under the watchful eye of key shareholder "Tej" a notorious figure in the offshore sportsbook world.

It is expected that the total prize money for this year's WSOP will eclipse $100 million, more than doubling the previous high, set last year at $45 million.
Also more than doubling in one year is the number of entrants - with approx. 6,600 in 2005, compared to the benchmark of 2,576 last year.

04 Jul 05 BetUs Making Good Sportsbook BetUs (also known as "little NASA"), a book that previously players should have run away from as fast as they could, appears to be making some positive changes.

If you've been stiffed by this outfit in the past, it's time to give them a ring.

Deloitte's reasoning for the split was that WPT's "involvement in an online gaming venture created audit risks that would require an inordinate investment in time and resources, relative to the company's size as a client."
