Profits For Lasseters Ahead Of Target

NJ Judge Rules Gambling Site Illegal
Running a gambling Web site is illegal even though New Jersey has no law that expressly bans betting over the Internet, a Morris County judge ruled Tuesday. The decision upholds an indictment against a Belleville resident. The defense lawyer for Nicholas Drakos, 48, unsuccessfully tried to get Superior Court Judge Salem Vincent Ahto in Morristown to dismiss the indictment against his client, who is charged with promoting gambling, conspiracy to promote gambling and money laundering between January and April 2004.

Brits Addicted to Online Gambling
Britons spend £5 billion (US$8.82 billion) a year on online gambling, a survey revealed Friday. 93 per cent of those with web access quizzed by Virgin Money, admitted they have placed at least one Internet bet. The average gambler spends between £10- and £20-a-week on gaming sites. The biggest players are Londoners with one in 10 punters in the capital gambling between £300 and £500 every week. Half of the 2,000 people polled say they only started gambling online in the past six months.

BBC News: Major overhaul for gambling laws
"New rules on gambling have come into force in the industry's biggest overhaul since the 1960s.

It is now easier to join a casino but a new regulator called the Gambling Commission aims to ensure that betting is fair, safe and socially responsible.

On Monday an independent panel will start work on deciding the location of the UK's first "super casino".

Opponents fear the changes will lead to an explosion in problem gambling, especially among vulnerable people.

But Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has said the UK will have the most heavily regulated gambling industry in the world."
