UEFA Looking Into Illegal Gambling Allegations Updated 30 Sep 08
Last year there were irregular betting patterns for a tennis match involving Nikolay Davydenko, this time around 25 UEFA matches are under suspicion.
According to Reuters, the Union of European Football Associations has put together a "betting unit" which will investigate betting irregularities after 25 matches from this past year's UEFA Cup saw what is being called "irregular betting patterns."
According to the UK's Telegraph, "UEFA have already embarked on reviewing 10 UEFA Cup preliminary matches from this season as well as studying 15 from the previous campaign which UEFA believe could have been affected by irregular betting."
A similar situation involved a match with tennis player Nikolay Davydenko, although Davydenko was cleared.
