Keeping It Real
01 Feb 10
As you probably have seen for yourself, there seems to be a steady growth of cinema and entertainment that flows on about gambling and the glitz of casinos. You have your Rounders, 21 and other movies from around the world that try to depict what it is like to be inside the walls of the casinos or show the heroic lifestyle of a gambler.

As a gambler or aspiring gambler it is always important to look to where the sources of inspiration are the most pure. Look to the actual gamblers themselves as the best means of learning the game and understanding the real highs and lows of gambling. Cinema will always show you the most exciting parts of gambling but will never show you what is real, that is exactly why people go to the cinemas, to take a trip to a fairy tale where life is just so comfortable and perfect.

It all goes the same with all the other movies based on certain sports or activities. Try asking a professional boxer or boxing coach about whether to listen to all the themes coming out of the Rocky movies. Do you think they are trying to tell a story about boxing? Sure the fight of one man to become a champion is worth a listen, but the aspiring boxer should still just keep to the gym and learn from reality rather than the big screen.
