A Difference In Culture
22 Dec 09
Much is written about how casinos from the United States are setting up all over Asia. With setting up comes research and clearly many of the casinos that have set up have invested lots of research into ensuring the casinos are 'Chinese' or 'Eastern' friendly. So then they have hired all of the interior designers to make everything all red, ensured plenty of smoking is available and provided plenty of table game action.

They have gone further and provided top Cirque Du Soleil acts, imported all the way from North America to entertain the expected masses that are going to show up. But then there is still the failure to understand the essence of Eastern culture and what gambling actually means to the Chinese.

Gambling is gambling, it is not attached to eating well, circus shows or even theme parks. Gambling is throwing chips on the table and keeping the seat warm whilst the cards are dealt. Drinks and food, they all aid the gambling. Gambling is more of a lifestyle thing, it is all in the anxiety and the thrill of gambling rather than the scene of gambling. Vegas is a scene, yes there are people who are there to have fun, and gamble, but the idea of it is less of a vacation in the East.

The East are there to just be the East.
