2009 brought certain new elements for poker around the world and hopefully many positives can be drawn from all the events that have occurred. Looking out at 2010, there are a few things that we all hope to see that will make poker more recognised as a sport.
1. Good Role Models
Unlike other sports, and maybe because poker is yet to really shine on the media spotlight, the role models of poker like Daniel Negreanu and Annie Duke manage to keep themselves out of trouble. They still continually donate winnings to charity and show up at charitable poker events to help promote many good causes.
2. Charity Poker Events
These events seem to be popping up at every major poker event, and let’s hope that they gain more momentum. Poker players really have all that they really need so giving back to a worthy cause should only be a small slice off the six figure bankroll that most pro poker players are nursing.
3. More Poker Players
Online poker continues to grow despite the whole world in recession, so as the popularity of poker continues to grow, the average age of the players continues to drop. We may yet to see another younger 21 year old world champion.
