Well, is it suffice to say that all the punters out there who decided to bet on the winner of the WSOP Main Event truly went off their heads when they started loading up their bets on to Phil Ivey? He was seventh in chips and needed a lot of double ups to be able to stand a chance. He happened to bust at seventh place, in a bad beat situation, and there was nothing really wrong with how he played, but the cards did not fall his way.
Why the commotion? Because the world went and bet so hard on Phil Ivey , that he became the favourite to win the event! Many call Ivey, the Tiger Woods of poker, because they are both 'not white', but poker is very different to golf. Golf you play your best game, and if you are better than everybody else on the field, you will win. You should be short priced favourite, since you are expected to win.
Poker is so different! You play your best game and you can still lose. You are more than likely not to win when you are seventh in chips moving in to the final table. Maybe the world can learn from this, but who knows, next year, Ivey might be in the final 40 and the money will start flushing in again.
