The whole internet poker world has been going wild with the latest episode of the WSOP 2009 showing Phil Ivey mucking the winning hand. On a board that showed four spades, one of them being an ace, Phil Ivey and his opponent checked it post flop all the way to the river.
His opponent turned over his cards to show a pair of aces, and Phil Ivey threw his hand of pocket eights, one of them a spade, into the muck to give away the pot. Phil Ivey actually had a flush and somehow he must have forgot his own cards that he actually was supposed to take the pot of $2 million chips.
It is very hard to think of Phil Ivey making such a simple mistake of not even turning over your cards at a showdown or even checking your cards at a showdown. This mistake is like comparable to fumbling the ball for a winning try when all clear or a goal keeper throwing the ball into their own goal with the opposition backing away.
Hard to think that a pro can make such a mistake, but it just goes to show everybody is human.
