Mike Sexton Inducted In Poker Hall of Fame 23 Oct 09
Poker legend Mike Sexton has been inducted as the 38th member of Poker's Hall of Fame. He was able to get past the strong competition of other legends like Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein for the coveted title, with the voting committee feeling that he satisfied all the requirements over the other nominees.
Age has been a big debate in many internet forums over who will make the poker hall of fame. For the younger generation of poker players, idols like Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey continue to be introduced as the best players they know and emulate where a player like Mike Sexton would almost never be mentioned as a player to follow. Sexton does sport a WSOP bracelet and has over $3.7 million in poker winnings and happens to be the commentator for the World Poker Tour, one of the earliest exponents of poker tv coverage.
Mike got extra votes over the other players due to his contribution to the overall promotion of poker and all of his philanthropic deeds. Maybe next year, or when they get a little older, will Barry Greenstein, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu start slowly being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame before they fade out.
