Anti-Gambling Can Find Something Else To Pick On 09 Oct 09
Anytime a government thinks of opening a casino to boost the local economy and provide some jobs to the community, you will always overnight have a group of people who will start parading about why there should be no casino because they feel that it will ruin lives. Anti-gambling groups are in force all over the world, they wake up early to paint slogans and tire slowly as they march around chanting out why they are anti gambling.
One seems to think why they can not go and find other things to be anti about. Why do they not go about being anti credit card? That ruins just as many lives of people who like to go out and spend more than they can afford at the local department store. They can setup a parade over at the bank and walk around shouting out slogans on how credit cards are ruining families.
Are there anti mortgage lending groups who have lent mortgages to people who simply should not have mortgages? There are many other things that ruin lives in this world. Fatty foods also ruin lives and families throw a lot of money at foods that can increase heart disease and diabetes, there are no anti campaigners there.
Yes, gambling is a touchy subject. But it is also a legal entity, something that the public must accept as it is just a legal institution providing a legal service just like many other institutions. If you do not accept it, you can pass on its service, but you do not have to ruin the fun for all the other people out there who accept the service and feel that it contributes to society.
