Match-Fixing In UEFA Champions League Updated 26 Mar 09
The outcome and integrity of a 2004 soccer game could've been compromised.
According to the Associated Press, "UEFA says it has charged the president of Macedonian football club FK Pobeda and one of its players with match-fixing in a Champions League game."
FK Pobeda and FC Pyunik were involved in the first-round of the Champions League back in 2004 with Pyunik defeating Pobeda 4-2 with aggregate scoring (3-1 in first leg and 1-1 in second).
As UEFA said:
The match under investigation was the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round game between FK Pobeda and FC Pyunik on 13 July 2004. The charge is based on reports received from the betting industry on irregular betting patterns and the declarations of several witnesses. The Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on 17 April.
