Three Join Kentucky Online Domain Name Fight
Updated 18 Nov 08
The number of opponents to Kentucky's online gambling domain name seizure increased by three as the ACLU, EFF and CDT joined the battle.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Center for Democracy and Technology filed an amicus brief with Kentucky Court of Appeals last week, seeking to throw out Kentucky's seizure of online gambling domain names.

"The court's theory—that a state court can order the seizure of Internet domain names regardless of where the site was registered—is not only wrong but dangerous," said Matt Zimmerman, Senior Staff Attorney of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

"A key free speech principle that has emerged from Internet litigation is this: Governments may not prohibit all access to websites as a remedy for unlawful behavior," said American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky's General Counsel, David Friedman.
