Organisers and sponsors of the World Series of Poker are grinning from ear to ear with this year's ratings of the ESPN program up 11% from last year's show. So far, the coverage has covered all the preliminary events and is now airing up to day 5 of the main event. This is all gradually building up to the final table where play will resume on the 7th of November.
There are a few reasons why the ratings are up this year. First of all, least year had a major distraction of the Olympics broadcasted. Second, this year has Phil Ivey showing up on the final table, which can easily produce more viewers hoping to catch a glimpse of all the plays that he made to get himself to the final table. This year also marks the first time that there will be a day's break between the final table and the heads up play. This allows for more media interviews and sponsorship opportunities before the final cards are dealt.
