WSOP Main Event Heralds Youngest Winner 15th November 2009
Joe Cada has lifted the main event bracelet at the very experienced age of 21, setting a new record as the youngest winner of the World Series of Poker Main Event. Although many expected the young poker pro to just walk over the 45 year old logger from Maryland, Darvin Moon, with a two to one chip lead, during the heads up battle, it actually took a lot longer than expected with Moon managing to pull back to even chips and apply a lot of pressure in every hand.
Without taking away much from the achievement. Joe’s run to the final table is a very colourful one, with many coin flips going the way of the Detroit native. At the final table, he dropped down as low as four big blinds before doubling his stack up to be chip lead going in to the heads up. At three handed, Joe Cada was all in against an opponent’s pocket queens with his own pocket twos. He managed to spike a two to make trips and send his opponent to the rail and take the chip lead to heads up and go all the way from there with a dramatic race in the final hand. Joe’s father is a casualty of the recession and Joe’s mum is a blackjack dealer at a Detroit casino.
