Fake Chips Discovered at Wynn Macau 19th September 2009
Wynn Macau has managed to catch six Chinese mainlanders trying to cash in fake counterfeiting gaming chips. The casino managed to seize a total of 38 highly sophisticated chips, each with a microchip within it and a total face value of HK$10,000 ( US$1,250). The chips managed to fool dealers and some were actually cashed. A few hours later, security staff managed to detect the chips were fake and were able to find the gamblers still within the casino, about to cash in a further set of chips.
All six of the mainlanders were arrested and will face prosecution. Macau police have released a statement stating that the chips were produced by a larger syndicate in mainland China. The gamblers who were arrested are merely runners who are told to try and cash the chips.
