WSOP Final Table Draws 2.1 million Viewers 15th November 2009
The second year of the ‘November Nine’ format of the World Series of Poker has proven a big success with television audiences for the second year in a row. This year 2.1 million viewers tuned in for ESPN’s same day coverage to watch Joe Cada’s heads up battle with Darvin Moon and take the championship. The overall rating was down about 100,000 viewers from the 2008 final table between Peter Eastgate and Ivan Demidov.
Viewers, however, tuned in to ESPN’s 15 week, two episodes per week, broadcast of the WSOP and led to an increase of nine percent in household viewing and seven percent increase of total viewership. The largest demographic to catch on to this year’s WSOP coverage was the 24-54 demographic, which jumped 13 percent from 2008’s coverage. This has been largely reasoned to Darvin Moon’s remarkable run as chip leader to the final table, and the fact that he is 45 and the stereotypical working class amateur American poker player.
