Las Vegas has continued it's very worrying slip in gambling visitor numbers with a 3.7 percent fall in August 2009. This marks the 15th consecutive month that the world famous gambling strip has shown declining tourists. 3.1 million travellers headed to Vegas in the month of August 2009, down from the 3.2 million travellers of August 2008. Other indicators of a decline include room occupancy down 6.9 percent despite continual innovation in discounting and giant slashing in prices.
The convention business is also down by 58.9 percent. The main reason for this is that many companies have had to cut back on their own convention spending. Conventions have been the items on the balance sheet that have received the most number of strokes and cancellations and this has flowed heavily to the continual decline in visitor numbers for Las Vegas.
