Tasmanian Greens Cut Slots
11th March 2010

The Tasmanian Greens political party of Australia has come out firing with their anti slot machine policy leading up to Australia’s next federal election. The Greens group has fed the media with plenty of statistics of gambling figures that contribute to Australia being one of the world’s heaviest gambling countries. Tasmania being a very small state happens to contribute more than $220 million to slot machines for the year 2009 and has commenced the year with a $17 million figure in January 2010 alone.

The Greens party feels that the slots machines are to blame for many family break downs, career problems and other society problems. The Australian government is already implementing changes to slot machines in Australia with new gambling limits to slow down the amount a player can insert into the slots machine. However, the local Greens party feels the state is better off without slots machines rather than just curbing the slot machine habits of it’s locals.
