A tanker with a load of approximately 45,000 pounds of hydrochloric acid was involved in an accident on the Paseo Bridge, causing major damage to both the air and also to the bridge. The nearby Isle of Capri Casino was forced to shut down and contain it’s customers inside until the acidic air was dispersed. All the patrons were forced inside for 2 hours and were not allowed to leave the casino.
Casino managers were told by the Kansas City Fire Department to turn off all air conditioners and ventilation units until it was clear enough to be operated again. A gambler from the casino had to be taken to hospital after experiencing breathing problems and was later released in a stable condition.
