Continual disagreements in working conditions and pay have led to Star City Casino staff, in Sydney, concluding to strike for one hour on the job. The union for Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous decided that strike action was necessary after their proposal for better working conditions and pay, was rejected by Star City Casino management. Negotiations had been taking place for about eight months with the casino continually rejecting the union’s requests.
The union stated that employees had only been offered a two percent pay rise, whilst Star City management has detailed a nine per cent increase in wages over three years and increased staff allowances. The sensitive issue on the table is that the union is trying to retain sick leave loadings as part of their pay conditions, a condition that management describes as highly outdated. The union outlines that Star City is no where short of funds with $575 million spent on renovations and executives paid $2.6 million.
