Newly opening casino Resort World Sentosa has made headlines in Singapore for hiring over 150 card dealers from Taiwan. The Taiwanese card dealers have been recruited through Taiwanese employment websites and agencies and have been offered S$1,800 monthly to work in the casino. The government has also allowed the Taiwanese card dealers special visas that allow them to have permanent residency status for up to two years.

The casinos have had to look else where for talent to fill the skill sets that need to be filled in the casino. The wage rate that has been set out by the Singapore casinos is attractive in Taiwanese terms but not so attractive for local Singaporeans. Resorts World Sentosa has also recruited casino staff from Malaysia, Phillipines and also Hong Kong to help fill lower end positions.
