Polish sports minister Miroslaw Drzewiecki has submitted his resignation after damning evidence discovered detailing his involvement with gambling companies and his influence over the amendments of new gambling laws. With an apparent conflict of interest on the table, the sports minister stepped aside to ensure that his Prime Minister was not dragged down in the affair which included transcripts of recorded conversations between the minister and owners of gambling companies.
Miroslaw Drzewiecki has continued to state he is innocent amongst all of this media attention. The new gambling laws were set to provide higher tax revenue for the government with much heavier gambling volume forecast for the 2012 European soccer championships which Poland is hosting.
