The Pennsylvania government has made the bold move of wiping out a four year old rule of an individual slot machine manufacturer capped at owning just 50 percent of the games on a casino’s gaming floor. This ruling was introduced to ensure International Game Technology, one of the leading companies of slots technology, did not eat the entire market and allowed some of the other slot machine manufacturers to have some machines on the floor.
Since then, the gap between the front runner and the next competitors has narrowed, and is now a much more even playing field. Bally Technologies, WMS Industries and other companies now feature in many casino floors. By eliminating the cap, casinos can now be free to choose their preferred manufacturers allow more slot machines on Pennsylvania’s gaming floors. Casinos are planned to open in the main cities of Philadelphia, further improving state gambling tax revenue.
