The Palms Casino of Nevada has been handed a not so sunny fine of $75,000 by the Nevada Gaming Commission for the mismanagement of poker tournaments back in late 2007. Although the poker tournaments were run by a third party organiser, the United States Poker League, the Nevada Gaming Commission has still handed the fine to the Palms since it is still their responsibility to ensure that all poker tournaments are registered with the state gaming regulators, with which the tournaments in 2007, were not.
The Palms resort has also had to payout $450,416 in owed prize money from the tournaments since the operators issued cheques that bounced and players were left without their tournament prize. The fine serves as a notice to the casino and all the other casinos in the state of Nevada that although they may not be directly running the tournament, they still have to ensure that all activities are within the guidelines of the state gambling regulators.
