Online Gambling Licences Delivered By French 6th of June 2010
Online gambling licenses will be delivered by the French before the world Cup, showing that online gambling is making progress in France. Currently there are 30 gambling licenses available and the applications of 20 major gambling operators have been inspected so far. As of the first week of June, the gambling regulator, ARJEL, started delivering the first agreements. This is just in time for wagering to begin on the World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in August 2010. There are some operators applying for multiple licenses. These operators include Bwin and BetClic. Those awarded online gambling licenses will be delivered by the French before the World Cup so that there is a reasonable amount of time for wagering to start.
There are some major operators that won’t be applying for licenses. This is either because they do not want to provide gambling services to the French or for competition reasons. Microgaming, however, has submitted its application for three operator licenses. Two of these licenses are part of a joint venture with 888 Holdings PLC. Microgaming states that the possibility that these online gambling licenses will be delivered before the World Cup is an incredible opportunity for them. They are working to establish themselves as market leaders in France, which can prove to be a profitable opportunity for them. Those entering the French regime for the first time are looking forward to establishing themselves within the French market. The operators are opening themselves up to even more gambling and money making opportunities.
