Officials To Investigate MGM Macau 17th April 2010
MGM Mirage may have to choose where it’s alliance lies as US gaming officials have made plans to investigate MGM Mirage’s partnership in Macau with Pansy Ho, daughter of casino magnate Stanley Ho. The investigation is due to Pansy Ho’s rumoured triad links in Macau. The key states that have called for this investigation are Illinois, Michigan and Mississippi, where MGM Mirage have properties, albeit that underperform it’s Asian cousins in Macau.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has announced that MGM Mirage needs to cease partnering with Pansy Ho and have threatened the company with the risk of losing their state casino licences. Casinos partnering with local triad organisations in Macau have long been part of the folklore of efficient management of casinos. Triads provide many of the underground funds that players use to play at the tables and slots, however such a practice is not looked upon as openly by the state departments.
