Packers And Cowboys Have Been Winners Against Spread
by Lonnie White, L.A. Times staff writer
29 November, 2007

SPORTS

SOURCE: Los Angeles Times

Green Bay living legend Brett Favre has started every game at quarterback for the Packers since 1992 and has led several championship-quality teams that had solid records against the spread.

But it has been a long time since Favre had the Packers on a money run like this.

Green Bay -- a seven-point road underdog tonight against Dallas in a battle of the NFC's two 10-1 teams -- is 9-1-1 against the spread, 8-0-1 against the spread in its last nine road games and 7-0 against the spread in its last seven games as an underdog.

Impressive numbers for a team that was 19-26-3 against the spread the three previous seasons.

But the Cowboys are riding a few positive trends of their own. They are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games against NFC opponents, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a home favorite.

Here are few proposition bets regarding tonight's game between Green Bay and Dallas from Bodoglife.com:

* Will either the Packers or the Cowboys represent the NFC in the Super Bowl? Yes (-200) or No (+150).

* Will the winner get home-field advantage for the NFC playoffs? Yes (-250) or No (+175).

* Will the teams meet again in the NFC championship game? Yes (-115) or No (-115).

* Who will throw the first touchdown pass, Tony Romo (-115) or Brett Favre (-115).

College football

If West Virginia and Missouri win Saturday, the teams probably will play in the Bowl Championship Series championship game on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

But oddsmakers favor an Ohio State-West Virginia matchup.

That's because Las Vegas sports books estimate the odds of West Virginia defeating Pittsburgh on Saturday at more than 97%, but Missouri is listed as a three-point underdog against Oklahoma.

If the Tigers lose, the Buckeyes probably would replace Missouri in the championship game.

RJ Bell of Pregame.com projects an even point spread if that is the title-game matchup. But Bell added that Louisiana State would be favored over any team in the country if the Tigers were in the BCS championship game because of home-field advantage with the game being played in the New Orleans Superdome.

Pro basketball

The Lakers, 8-6 overall and 5-3 at home, are 5-3 against the spread in games at Staples Center. The Lakers were favored by 12 points over Seattle on Tuesday but failed to cover in a 106-99 win.
