New Zealand Takes A Hit

The New Zealand is economy is continuing to struggle under tough economic conditions which has led on to a drop in slot machine spending. Spending for slot machines has dropped by 4.2 percent from the first three months of last year to this year. From January to March, slot machines recorded $199.9 million in play and was the first fall below $200 million since 2007. Other indicators have continued to slide including slot machines outside of casinos by 3.2 percent and also seasonally adjusted spending down 8.5 percent.

Many bars that hold slot machines in New Zealand are required to pay out at least 37.12 percent of their revenue to community groups, but the fall in slot machine play means that the community will have to suffer by 4 percent. Although there has been a decline in slots machine use, the number of people using problem gambling services has jumped by a massive 59 percent.
