MGM Grand Foxwoods Loses Slots Revenue 17th February 2010
The Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods have both recorded a decline in the slots revenue and winnings in January. Traditionally one of the best performers for the casinos, slots revenue falling is a serious concern since it signals the economy being bleak and gamblers are holding on to their wallets since conditions are tight. The joint venture partnership between MGM Mirage and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation reported a decline of 2.5% in slot wins and 3.3% in total slots for a total slot revenue of $51.6 milion.
Slot machines were introduced at Foxwoods in 1993. The then government knew that slots would increase the amount of gaming activity and would lead to increased tax revenue for the government. The tribe made a transfer of $13.1 million to the government from it’s January revenue. Despite the decline in slots revenue, the Foxwoods and MGM Foxwoods casinos continue to out score the casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
