Medication Leads To Gambling Addiction 11th of June 2010
A group of 100 people, in Australia, who suffered the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are suing a two drugs companies after many of them developed addictions to gambling and pornography after taking the prescription drug. Many people within that group sustained six figure losses and had their lives drastically affected after taking the drugs Cabaser and Permax, distributed by Pfizer Australia and Aspen Pharmacare respectively.
Both the drugs are used to treat the loss of dopamine in the brain, a chemical in the brain that lead to smooth and controlled movements. Both Cabaser and Permax replicate the effects of dopamine on the brain and leads to users developing more risk taking behaviour and addictions. A similar case in 2008 in the US had a jury award a man $US8.2 million who became a compulsive gambler after using a similar drug.
