Back down stateside, Tropicana Entertainment LLC, which owns the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Las Vegas among other casinos, was expected to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The reported move was preceded by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission taking away the company’s license to operate in Atlantic City.
It was the Commission’s opinion that based on actions by Tropicana since being granted license to operate in N.J.—including the layoff of unionized employees—the company could not operate in a way that would adhere to state regulations.
The Tropicana in Atlantic City wouldn’t be covered as it is in the process of being sold.
Back in Vegas, this year’s World Series of Poker, which takes place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, announced a format change.
Rather than holding the Final Table of the NL Hold’em Main Event during the early summer event, the final nine will take a break and play for the prize in November.
