The casinos of Macau have had their work cut out last week with China National Day Golden week sending over 600,000 visitors to Macau. This figure is a 5.87 per cent increase in tourist numbers compared to the last year's Golden Week. Most of the tourists came from the Guangdong Province and the Fujian Province, all coming down to chance their luck at the casinos of Macau, where they have extra dealers and staff ready for the holiday crowd.
Hotel occupancy for the Macau hotels reached 87.3% which was an increase of 5.6 % from last year's figures. Hotel room pricing was also up by 15.46%. This is excellent news for Macau casino and hotel operators who have had to endure the global financial crisis, higher visa restrictions and lower visitor numbers. Visa restrictions are slowly being relaxed by the mainland Chinese government, so with many Chinese visiting Macau for the first time, they will now have the opportunity to visit Macau more in the future.
