Davidson was listed as a 1-point fave and more than adequately covered in a 82-76 win over Gonzaga.

East Region

George Mason won't be the Cinderella team of this tourney as Notre Dame (-6½) beat them 68-50.

Favored by 10-points, Washington St. covered three times over as they defeated Winthrop by a score of 71-40.

Midwest Region

Vegas bookies were expecting a whitewash by the Kansas Jayhawks in their opener against the Portland St. Vikings and set the line accordingly, establishing Kansas as a 21-point favorite. Still the Kansas beat the Vikes handily and covered the spread in a 85-61 win in the Midwest Region.

UNLV beat Kent St. soundly 71-58 in what was a betting upset; Kent St. was a 1½-point fave and the combined score of 129 caused a Push on the Total.

Sixth seeded USC was upset by Kansas St. by a final of 80-67. KSU was a 3-point underdog.

Wisconsin covered against Cal St. Fullerton as a 11½-point favorite in a 71-56 victory.

West Region

Lack of major upsets has been a notable trend so far in the tournament. Seeded sixth and 11th in the West Region, Purdue beat Baylor by a score of 90-79, covering as a 2½-point favorite and going Over the Total of 146.

Speaking of favorites winning and the West, Xavier defeated Georgia 73-61 covering the 8½-point line and going Over the 129½-point Total.

There weren't any notable upsets but there almost was as Duke barely edged Belmont 71-70. The Blue Devils were 20-point favorites, failed to cover and the Total went Under 156½.

West Virginia beat Arizona by a final count of 75-65. WVU covered as a 2-point favorite.

Texas A&M (-1) beat BYU 67-62 and UCLA (-31½) managed to cover the big spread against Mississippi Valley St. in a 70-29 trouncing.

South Region

On the Southern front, Michigan St. (-6½) beat Temple 72-61; Pitt (-7½) beat Oral Roberts 82-63; Marquette (-6) beat Kentucky 74-66 and Stanford (-15) covered and beat Cornell 77-53.
