Betting On The Sweet 16
by Karl Yu, WinnerOnline
21 March, 2007

SPORTS

East Region *seeding in parentheses

North Carolina (1) vs. USC (5) — March 23, 2007

Line: North Carolina -8½

Over/Under: 149½

The Tar Heels haven’t encountered much turbulence on their way to the Round of 16. The minor speed bumps along their 2007 March Madness ride have included an 86-65 victory over Eastern Kentucky and an 81-67 decision over Michigan St.

North Carolina is 8-2 straight up in their last 10 and 4-6 against the number.

USC’s road hasn’t been that rocky either. A 77-60 victory over Arkansas and an 87-68 win against Texas has them amongst the last 16 teams standing.

The Trojans are 6-4 in their last 10 games ATS.

Georgetown (2) vs. Vanderbilt (6) — March 23, 2007

Line: Georgetown -7½

Over/Under: 131

As the Eastern Front’s second seed, the Hoyas showed their bark in the opening round with a resounding 80-55 victory over Belmont, but had their sabers rattled in the second round when they were down 30-26 at the half against Boston College.

They recovered in the second and ended up winning 62-55, largely on the performance of C Roy Hibbert who finished the game with 17-points and 12 boards.

The Hoyas are 9-1 SU and 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 games.

Vanderbilt’s path to the Sweet 16 is remarkably similar to that of their next opponent.

They trounced George Washington 77-44 and barely beat Washington State in two OT periods 78-74. Derrick Byars’ 27-points were key in that particular victory.

They are at the .500 mark ATS in their last 10.
