Pro NFL footballer Ross Verba spent the recent thanks giving in a Phoenix jail after trying to scam his way out of paying a $26,000 gambling debt he owed to the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. Verba had previously tried to settle his debts by writing three bad cheques to the casino. Once the casino found out that the cheques were delivering no such money, they decided to advance with legal proceedings to ensure they got their money back.
This is not the first casino debt related offense that Verba has been involved in. The former offensive linesman was arrested in January 2007 in Wisconsin after failing to settle a $50,000 debt he owned to Wynn Las Vegas. He was later dismissed after he managed to settle the debt and Wynn Las Vegas casino dropped the charges. Although many athletes think that they are celebrities and can get away with manipulating the media or other businesses, it is definitely not a good idea taking on the casinos of Las Vegas.
