Loto Quebec has been granted a licence from the government to start launching internet gambling websites to the Quebec population. The plans are now clear to provide a Quebec online poker and sports betting service that is planned to go live before the end of 2010. The aim of allowing Loto Quebec to provide the online gambling service is to minimise the effect illegal gambling has on the community.

Plans have already commenced on the types of betting limits the website will allow and also how it will block out minors from gambling. A major concern for the website is how it will lure traffic away from the major poker and gambling sites to ensure the facility is used and that the government is able to secure the gambling tax revenue that it hopes to achieve. The government hopes to generate $50 million in gambling tax revenue in 2012.
