Gary Kaplan, the entrepreneur found guilty of facilitating illegal online gambling in the USA, has been sentenced to 51 months in prison. Kaplan had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of violating the RICO statute, conspiring to violate the Wire Wager Act and violating the Wire Wager Act. Apart from serving the sentence, Kaplan will also be forfeiting $43.65 million in criminal proceeds and $7 million in related proceedings.
Gary Kaplan is the founder of BetOnSports. He was arrested in 2007 in the Dominican Republic for allowing American residents to wager on his online sports betting website. His operations also ran illegally in New York, Miami, Antigua and Costa Rica.
