Lasseters was launched in April 1999, and is wholly owned by Lasseters Corporation, licensed by the Northern Territory Government of Australia. The gaming servers are actually located in the Lasseters Hotel and Casino in Central Australia, which you may recognize if you've seen the movie The Adventure of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Players from Indiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Australia, and The Netherlands are prohibited from playing at Lasseters.
I visited Lasseters and found the entire account setup process to be painless. I didn't have to download and install a software package, since the games are all browser-based. After signing up, making a deposit was easy as well. I used my credit card and didn't run into any hassles or rejections, and as promised the 100% Match Bonus was in my account later that same day. That's the way bonuses should be handled - no emailing back and forth to Customer Service requesting the bonus or having to follow up with them when it doesn't show up.
Lasseters offers pretty favorable bonus wagering requirements, just 10 times the deposit plus bonus. Baccarat, Roulette, and Sic Bo do not count towards the wagering requirement, so I was left with the many Slots, Video Pokers, and Scratch Cards as options to fulfill my bonus requirements. Blackjack does apply, but Blackjack activity requires a 20-times play-through.
Lasseters Casino software uses its own self-contained browser window, which is nice since it makes you feel like you're playing an installed software package. I find it a lot nicer and more immersive than Java or Shockwave sites that pop up a small window for you to play the game in. Lasseters offers Shockwave and Java versions of most games, but the differences between the two versions varies significantly. Sometimes the two versions are identical, while others are quite different. It adds some variety to the games, which is nice, but you'll generally find the version you like best and stick with it. There's a nice little feature that allows you to highlight favorite games and add them to an easily accessible "My Games" list.
Slot Machines are the emphasis at Lasseters, with a selection of over 40 of them, but I decided to give the table games a go to start out. Lasseters offers four table games - Roulette, Sic Bo, Blackjack, and Baccarat. I headed over to the Sic Bo table first and stuck to my favorite betting combination, betting on Small, and then placing bets on 14, 15, 16, and 17. It reduces the volatility of my bankroll and keeps me in there for some of the big wins. Depending on which way the dice are rolling, I can switch things up and bet on Big, and 4, 5, 6, and 7. At one point I got so desperate for a win, that I was doing both. It was working nicely for me for a while, but I got out when I started inching below my starting balance.
Next up was Roulette. I really like the wheel spin animation at Lasseters. It's a good size that fills up most of the screen, unlike many Roulette games out there where you need to put a magnifying glass against the monitor to see where the ball lands. Unfortunately for me, the wheel may have looked nice but it wasn't cooperating with me on this day. I left down about $20.
I hit the Blackjack table, and fought through a few dozen hands with the dealer, who suddenly developed a fondness for four-card 21s, before leaving the table down another $20. Lasseters offers Blackjack betting limits as low as 2 cents.
After my experience at the table games, I thought it would be best to play through my spate of bad luck in Lasseters' "Nickel Zone". It was the perfect cure. Within a dozen spins at Coral Zone, with its $2 Maximum Bet, I had wins of $40, $30, and $30. Then the machine went cold, or so I thought. After another dozen spins with no wins at all, I hit a nice $130 win. This machine was my new best friend. Although the maximum win was somewhat low, I really like Coral Zone's hit frequency. It kept me playing for hundreds of spins, strung along by nice wins every few spins. I left the game up about $200 and ventured over to some of the other games in the Nickel Zone. Mardi Gras, with its $1.50 Max Bet offers higher wins, but a lower hit frequency. I had a nice $50 win about 20 spins into it, and left the machine up $30.
The rest of the Nickel Zone was less successful for my bankroll. After playing Oceania, Ghost 'n Goblins, Mystery Man, and Valley of the Kings Slots I gave back some of my earlier winnings, but had a great time doing it.
I played the new Aztec Slots and had a nice quick $20 win within a couple spins when 4 Jaguars popped up. Be careful when hitting the Max Bet button on Slots outside of the Nickel Zone, though, as it can result in bets of $90 to $600! I had to catch myself a few times.
I stayed away from the Video Pokers, since the maximum payout was fairly small. For example, All American Video Poker offers a payout of $250 on a Royal Flush at the $1 bet level. When I hit a Royal, I want to see more zeroes than that!
Next I tried my luck at Keno, colorfully called The Mechanical Chook at Lasseters, even though I knew Keno was one of the best games for the house, and quickly did the house a favor by giving back some more of my winnings.
Lasseters also has a good selection of scratch-and-win cards, which normally aren't my thing. I had a good time playing High Card and played a couple dozen cards before leaving at a break-even level and trying out the new Roller Coaster Scratch and Win. I rode that straight downhill to a $15 loss.
I decided to finish up my play back at the Blackjack table and had a load of fun there, but I would say that Lasseters' strength is definitely in its good selection of Slot Machines and soft games like Scratch and Wins.
Dealing with Lasseters was a refreshing experience, as Customer Service was available for Live Chat and was genuinely knowledgeable and helpful. Being regulated by the Northern Territory in Australia is also very reassuring
