BoDog first to offer odds on 55th Annual Emmy Awards
17 July 2003

PRESS RELEASE

SOURCE: Bodog

BoDog Sportsbook & Casino has posted odds on the 55th Annual Emmy Awards in 10 key categories following this morning’s official announcement of nominees.

“We continue to be the first sportsbook in the world with odds on award shows such as the Emmys, Oscars and Grammys,” said BoDog President, Rob Gillespie. “We had our odds up this morning within minutes of Jane Kaczmarek and Michael Chiklis making the announcements.”

BoDog’s linesmakers posted odds on Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy and Drama and Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy and Drama.

“The Emmys are a huge event and we have a large number of players who were eagerly waiting this morning for the odds to go up,” said Gillespie. “It seems everybody has an opinion on who’s going to win and they don’t mind putting some of their hard-earned money on the line.”

Not surprisingly, Six Feet Under, which earned 16 nominations, is the favorite for Outstanding Drama Series at 4/5 while HBO counterpart The Sopranos is a close second favorite at Even Money.

“Six Feet Under really seems to be the critics choice this year and we anticipate players wagering heavily on these two shows,” said Gillespie. “But sometimes long shots come through, such as Michael Chiklis last year.”

Friends, listed at 4/5, is the odds-on favorite to repeat as Outstanding Comedy Series in a near dead heat with HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is also listed at Even Money.

“Our linesmakers really struggled to determine a true favorite in this category,” said Gillespie. “These two shows are in a neck-and-neck race for the statuette.”

The odds for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series aren’t so close as Sopranos star James Gandolfini is heavy favorite at 1/3.

“With the show not being eligible last year they’re expected to take home a large cache of awards this year,” said Gillespie. “And Gandolfini is head and shoulders above the rest of the nominees.

Other favorites: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy: Larry David (1/1), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama: Edie Falco (1/2), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy: Sarah Jessica Parker (4/5), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama: Joe Pantoliano (4/5), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy: David Hyde Pierce (4/5), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama: Lauren Ambrose (4/5), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Kim Cattrall (4/5).
