United Kingdom Admits Tasmania To White List
18 January, 2008

NEWS

SOURCE: iGaming Business

In Britain, the Gambling Commission has announced that the Canadian First Nation enclave of Kahnawake along with Antigua are not to be white-listed for the purposes of advertising online gambling services in the UK.

The Kahnawake licensing jurisdiction is home for hundreds of online gambling companies and the Gambling Commission gave no specific reason for the rejection.

However, the Mohawks of Kahnawake have been the target of player criticism regarding alleged poor communications for years along with some controversial judgements.

"After careful assessment of their representations against the published criteria, the Secretary of State has also decided not to white-list Kahnawake (Canadian reservation) or Antigua," a statement released by the Commission read.

Antigua has also been accused in the past of poor levels of response to complaints from players and has also been involved for some time in a World Trade Organisation dispute with the United States.

The news is not all bad as the Commission confirmed that Tasmania would be added to the white-list of jurisdictions allowed to advertise online gambling in the UK.

This decision follows a reconsideration of the Australian state’s application after the introduction of amending legislation to its tax regime.

From January 31, operators licensed in Tasmania will be able to join those based in European Economic Areas (EEA), Alderney and the Isle of Man in lawfully advertising gambling in the UK.
