According to reports, the state legislature of New Jersey is again exploring the possibility of having legalized sports betting at Atlantic City casinos.
The Press of Atlantic City reports that the state Assembly Tourism and Gaming Committee oversaw discussions regarding a bill that would legalize wagering on sports earlier today.
Assemblyman John J. Burzichelli, who sponsored the bill, anticipates that the North American professional sports leagues will oppose the proposed legislation and that detractors will point to incidents like the one concerning tennis player Nikolay Davydenko as a reason not to introduce sports betting but says it won't be a problem.
"Our casinos have a world-class reputation for being well-run, and if this is done in the casinos this will be done in an environment that is safe and well-governed," he told the Press of Atlantic City.
