Continued from page 1

6) 1992 AFC Wild-Card: Oilers 38 vs. Bills 41 (OT) — The greatest comeback I’ve ever witnessed. Backup Frank Reich gets the call after Jim Kelly is injured, and he leads the Bills to an OT win after being down 35-3 in the second half. It was unbelievable.

5) 1999 AFC Wild-Card: Bills 16 vs. Titans 22 — The Music City Miracle. The game wasn’t overly dramatic, although it was close, but the ending solidified it as a Top 10er. I had a play riding on the Titans, so this one is etched in my mind. Was that incredible kick-off TD a forward pass, or wasn’t it? To this day I’m still not sure, but I cashed a ticket that by all rights was dead, and I can only imagine the agony felt by those holding Bill tickets that day.

4) 1981 NFC Championship: Cowboys 27 vs. 49ers 28 — Six lead changes and the famous Dwight Clark catch make this an all-time classic.

3) 1987 AFC Championship: Browns 33 vs. Broncos 38 — The Fumble. I loved these Bronco-Brown playoff battles in the 80s. Two great rivals producing pure entertainment. Ernest Byner’s fumble in the last minute as he was about to score the go-ahead TD killed Cleveland fans for the second year in a row (see #2 for the first heartbreak).

2) 1986 AFC Championship: Browns 20 vs. Broncos 23 (OT) — John Elway’s 98-yard masterpiece was excruciating to watch for this Brown fan, but I can appreciate now in reflection. This was a classic playoff game, with one of the most memorable events in NFL history, always to be known as “The Drive”.

1) 1982 AFC Divisional Semi-Final: Dolphins 38 vs. Chargers 41 (OT) — Probably the best football game I’ve seen in my lifetime. Playing in Miami, San Diego led 24-0 after the first quarter, but Miami clawed back in the second quarter, making a game of it. The second half was a thrilling shootout, with the Chargers tying it up in the final minute. Both teams missed field goals in OT, driving the excitement up further and further, until San Diego made one with one minute left. There were 95 passes thrown in the game, and the great Kellen Winslow caught 13 passes for almost 170 yards. I loved those “Air Coryell” years in San Diego.
