US authorities have managed to crack down on an illegal offshore online gambling operation that was being run by local organised crime. The Genovese and Gambino families, both families in New York, were raided and twenty seven people were arrested. Many others in on the project have already fled to Costa Rica and Panama were US authorities will continue to pursue them.

The operation received about $20 million a month in gambling bets and had been investigated by US authorities for over three years. During the raids on the families, over $3 million in cash was seized. It is believed that the illegal operation has made over $567 million in illegal bets.
