In a year of amazing new things, some of the old guard have had a lot of catching up to do when it comes to chasing round the new guard and throwing in their chips at the high stakes games that have been coming alive of late. Gus Hansen has recently announced that he will be taking some time out from poker to reassess things. Having started the year positively, Gus currently sits at a negative of $9 million dollars and seems to be feeling the effects of this major downswing.
All the poker literature in the world always talks about taking a break when experiencing a downswing, this theory does not apply exclusively to amateurs, it also works well for the pros. Writing in his blog, Gus plans to take a break to study all the hand histories and analyse his own game to see what is going wrong and to make corrections for 2010. He is looking to see whether this game has headed in some bad direction and formulate a new game plan for 2010. Gus also plans to use the time to relax with his family.
