A grandson has been arrested and fronted in court for stealing over $30,000 from his own grandmother. Cited as having a serious gambling problem, Daniel Mastrogiovanni, used blank cheques given to him by his arthritis ridden grandmother to withdraw large sums of money. The blank cheques were originally for heating and electricity bills, but were instead used to with draw $22,000 from her bank account to purchase electronic items like Nintendo Wii’s, Playstations and plasma television.
Mastrogiovanni has agreed to sell all the items that he purchased to pay his grand mother back. On top of withdrawing money, he also charged items to her credit card and also stole six pieces of heirloom jewellery. Mastrogiovanni is also paying restitution on previous larceny charges. He has vowed to pay back the money that he stole and address his personal gambling problems.
