In one of the world's first moves of casino gambling on to a TV station, UK's Channel Five has announced a five year contract with NetPlay TV. The contract entails a four hour time slot on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for Netplay TV's SuperCasino.com and pending conditions on the contract and viewership, will extend to seven days a week.
How the TV show works is viewers register and call up the TV station to place bets on live roulette, blackjack and other casino games. Winners are then announced on the show and bets are paid off. This is the first time TV gambling will be offered to the mass UK population. Previously, this could only be accessed by satellite TV and also on the internet.
Many religious groups have already voiced their opinions on the format of the show and feel that the show will deepen the problem of gambling addiction. The show promises intense regulation to ensure problems are minimised.
