French Online Gambling Laws Unpopular 29th January 2010
French online gambling laws have recently been released and has seen lots of action with companies all scurrying to grab a piece of the action. Two locally based companies Francaise des Jeux, the state gambling monopoly, and Lucien Barriere, the land based casino group, have partnered together to release a new online poker room. Much of the legislation has been scrutinised by the rest of the European Union since it looks as if the finer details of the legislation gives advantages to only locally based companies rather than international companies that may have more online gambling experience.
Several companies like Cyberarts and Intralot have expressed interest in partnering with a local company to adhere to French legislation but have somehow not been given the opportunity to the fine details of the online gambling legislation. The results of the legislation have caused observers to call the new French online gambling laws as restrictive and anti-competitive. Many highly experienced gambling software providers have not been given an opportunity to provide a competitive online gambling service to the French.
