As reported by various agencies earlier in the week, European Union Internal Market Commissioner, Charlie McCreevy and the European Commission issued a final warning against Greece and the Netherlands for restrictive online gambling practices.
Greek online gambling company OPAP and the Netherlands' Holland Casino both essentially hold monopolies in their respective territories and have been blocking competition from fellow EU nations.
On Monday a spokesperson from McCreevy's office said that the issues would be discussed in a meeting on Wednesday and an official announcement would be made on Thursday (today).
As the Associated Press reports, "Greek and Dutch authorities have two months to act on the EU's request or face legal action, the European Commission warned."
McCreevy has been quoted as saying that he isn't so much against EU countries banning online gambling but says rules can't prevent other EU nations from offering services and advertising as they are "legally authorized" to do so.
Stanleybet International and William Hill have been trying to enter the Greek market with much resistance.
