Minister of Finance Dr. Errol Cort is looking forward to Antigua being added to the United Kingdom’s "whitelist" very soon.
Speaking to the Antigua Sun, the minister said that following his visit last month with the UK minister with responsibility for gaming, he became assured that things will be resolved positively.
Last month, the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sports, informed through a release that Antigua and Barbuda was not added to their government’s ‘whitelist,’ which means that the online gambling companies registered in the country cannot legally advertise their services in the UK.
The decision was made after an extensive review of the twin island state’s Internet gambling regulations.
Cort said, “My delegation left that meeting feeling very optimistic that we would be in a position to address the very small outstanding issues raised by the UK.
“We felt more than comfortable that this is a matter will be resolved and we look forward to the UK putting Antigua on its whitelist in the not too distant future.”
He said that “specific issues” were discussed, but would not go into detail. He, however, judged the overall atmosphere of the meeting to be cordial and very positive.
At the moment, the countries that are allowed to advertise their services are the European Economic Area countries of Alderney and Isle of Man, in addition to Tasmania.
